Thomas worked as a Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS) for 5 yrs. before founding Functional Rehab Equipment in 1989. Through an allied health model, Functional educated providers, raising their expectations for rehab technology outcomes.

Tom became the in-house provider of wheelchairs and seating at the Rehab Institute of Michigan, additionally providing education for staff therapists and resident physiatrists.

Sunrise Medical recruited Tom to manage the custom seating, adult tilt in space, and pediatric wheelchair lines in 1995. Tom was promoted to Vice President in 2001 where his scope widened to include oversight of Sunrise’s seating product lines globally.

Tom has presented on wheeled mobility and seating at the International Seating Symposium, RESNA’s annual conference, European Seating Symposium, and at many other regional and international education venues.

He is an inventor on more than a dozen US patents for assistive technology, including the Quickie® IRIS™, Jay® J3™ Back and Jay® J3™ Cushion.
